Letter From Dear Doctor
Issue 28 of Dear Doctor Magazine
“There is a time for everything and a season for every experience under the heavens.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1-13
These past months have seen the loss of our beloved mentor, Dr. Morton Amsterdam, as well as other close and treasured family members.
We paid special tribute to Dr. Amsterdam in a past issue of Dear Doctor in an article entitled, “The Evolution of Advanced Dental Care.” He was a giant in the field of dentistry, and we were more than fortunate to be his students. Not only were we the recipients of his vast knowledge, wisdom and experience, but part of his treasured “Penn” (University of Pennsylvania) family; and it was his students of whom he was most proud.
Several years ago it was our great fortune to present to Dr. Amsterdam and Dr. D. Walter Cohen — his friend and partner in their shared life’s work — the galleys of a new section of Dear Doctor magazine entitled, “Patient Care,” dedicated to the management of advanced cases.
A great part of what drove Dr. Amsterdam was his passion — a thirst for knowledge and excellence. That passion certainly carried over in us. We hope that at least in some small measure, we have been successful in paying his life’s work forward by building on his contribution to making the world a better place.
In order to be productive in the pursuit of freedom and happiness, we all too often take our health for granted. Our legacy to our mentor Dr. Morton Amsterdam is to help ensure that we provide a pathway in helping you, our patients and members of the public, to stay healthy. By empowering you with the knowledge and education you need to make informed healthcare decisions, we hope to help you and your loved ones to enjoy good health for life. We should all remember when all said and done:
