X-rays, Are They Safe and Necessary?

Dental x-rays are a safe, time-tested, and effective diagnostic tool that most dentists use once a year; however, this frequency can vary based upon your dental needs. The reason they are so vital is due to their ability to enable your dentist to “see” what is not readily visible. They do this by penetrating soft tissues like skin and gum tissue more readily than hard tissues like bone and teeth to produce contrast (different degrees of shadow).

As for concerns about safety, dental x-rays are completely safe—even a full set of digital dental x-rays are equivalent to just a half day of background radiation (daily environmental exposure). Learn more plus review a radiation exposure comparison chart in X-ray Frequency and Safety.
