Nolan Gould Isn’t Scared of the Dentist Any More

Thirteen-year-old Nolan Gould — who's has starring roles in hit TV shows like Modern Family and movies like Space Buddies — is already a regular on big and small screens. He's also a veteran in the dentist's office, with a professional interest in maintaining a good-looking smile. A few years ago, Gould needed to have some teeth extracted. “[It] was very scary for me at that time,” the young actor admitted — but he went through the procedure like a trouper.

An extraction may be necessary due to crowding (too many teeth relative to jaw size) or an impacted tooth (one that fails to pass though the gums). As Gould explained, in his own situation, “I had two extra teeth when I was born.” Extraction may also be needed to prevent a cracked or decayed tooth from causing further damage.

In skilled hands, tooth extraction is a routine procedure. After thorough radiographic (X-ray) and visual examinations, the procedure is planned out to avoid surprises. After anesthesia is given, the tooth is carefully removed, and recovery is generally rapid. So how does Gould feel about going to the dentist now? “I don't get nervous,” he said.
