If you are considering porcelain veneers, then you should know some of the basic facts about them to determine whether or not they are right for you. This is particularly important because porcelain veneers require approximately 0.5 mm of tooth reduction; therefore, it is not considered a reversible treatment. Typically, local anesthetic is not required for placing your porcelain veneers; however, if you are particularly sensitive or anxious during dental visits, let your dentist know in advance so accommodations can be made and you can be given local anesthesia. Once placed, your laminate veneers are very strong and will resist most of the forces placed upon them from a normal diet.
