Risks of Periodontal Disease Increase with Menopause

Women who are menopausal or post-menopausal may experience discomfort in the mouth, including pain and burning sensations in the gum tissue, altered taste and dry mouth. These changes are attributed to hormonal changes and can make a woman more susceptible to periodontal disease. Talk to your periodontist about any of these oral changes that you may have noticed.
