Using Orthodontic Retainers to Protect Your New Smile

After completing the process of wearing braces, it is a wonderful feeling to once again feel that smooth surface of your teeth. And now that your teeth are finally straight, you may think that your job is done. However, your teeth will tend to relapse into their old position quite rapidly if you do not wear your retainers for the period specified by your orthodontist or general dentist. The reason this is so important is because it takes time for you teeth to become stabilized in their new position. For example, it can take up to several months for the bone and ligaments to reform and mature around your newly positioned teeth.
